Taking a vacation…to cook

November 23, 2009 · Filed Under women and work

When you’re self-employed, taking a vacation is tough. I haven’t taken time off since I had my baby…if you can call maternity leave a time off, which you can not. So it’s off we go, and I can’t wait. And since I love love Thanksgiving, I’ve been thinking of our menu obsessively.

For Thanksgiving, I’m making:

Turkey (well, my mom is going to make the turkey)
Whipped Sweet potatoes – just simple, like mashed potatoes. The baby loves them and so do grown ups.
Turnip gratin (From Elise Bauer- this sounds amazing, I have to make it)
Brussels sprouts sauteed with sherry and butter
Cranberry apple sauce
Pumpkin pie
Something chocolate? I just saw this recipe for bourbon chocolate pecan pie….wow.
